Project Chestnut - Yate Council Yard Transformed with a Natural Flagstone Patio

Project Chestnut was all about reshaping a garden for better flow and usability. As a commissioned build by Yate Council, Scott Brothers UK tackled this tired backyard with a focus on texture, contrast, and lasting appeal.

The original lawn and walkway were uneven, prone to wear, and overgrown along the edges. Our goal was to replace the patchy grass with something more durable and functional, so we introduced a flagstone patio with warm earth tones, natural variations, and a subtle pattern that brings character without overwhelming the space.

The stones were carefully selected and laid to create a smooth transition from the house to the rest of the garden. Each piece adds depth and contrast underfoot, turning the patio into a practical extension of the home’s living area.

To achieve a clean separation between patio and the surrounding lawn, we integrated a simple brick edge, ensuring both stability and a polished look. This design allowed for easy maintenance, keeping the soft and hard landscaping in clear balance.

Additional touches included raising the planting bed for definition and re-trimming the perimeter hedges to tidy up the view. The overall effect is a garden that feels immediately organized and welcoming.

This project reflects our straightforward approach to garden design: favouring natural elements, functional layouts, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time. At Scott Brothers UK, we see every Yate Council yard as a unique opportunity to create a space that works.
